Makena at 5 weeks was a birthday gift and I instantly fell in love with her. I named her after the most beautiful place I'd ever seen and that name proved to fit.
She was also the same color as that big sandy beach in Makena Maui that I had just seen a month before. Some of you may have had that once in a life time dog that could read your mind and was there anytime you needed someone to talk to. Makena was that dog.
As a search and recovery dog she brought many families closure and gave me purpose at a time that I needed it. She helped raise Chopper who will help me carry on that purpose to the next chapter.
Makena was a service dog in every sense of the word. She will be missed.
